El Cerrito, California: After more than 40 years of being a hidden gem (and furniture storage room,) the Cerrito Theater has finally re-opened its doors to the public. In honor of the occasion Frame x Frame Production’s Sean Frame was asked by the Friends of the Cerrito Theater to create a short documentary focusing on the story of the theater’s history, disappearance and rebirth. The film, Cerrito Celluloid, debuted at the grand opening gala on October 27, 2006 to rave reviews. Dianne Brenner, co-chair of Friends of the Cerrito Theater summed up the response. “We all absolutely loved it, and I think you saw how much the audience loved it, too.”

In creating the short film, Frame collaborated with local publicity and real estate professional Suzanne Baum to locate and interview patrons of the theater from its golden age in the 1940s and 50s, to interview some of the people integral to the renovation of the theater, and to collect and digitize archival and renovation photos. Baum’s producer skills, combined with Frame’s directorial vision and Frame x Frame Director of Photography, Holt Manchester’s skill behind the lens proved to be a winning combination. The result was a masterfully edited fifteen-minute tribute to what will likely become an East Bay landmark.
